Well, it's been a long time, but I finally managed to pull together
the video I've been wanting to make for the last four years! Check out
the new NecroBones
Tribes Movies page, and see the first film I've put together. I don't
know how many may follow, if ever, but this is at least a nice highlight
video of the action from my Shrike 101 and Shrike 102 demo recordings,
with a "Top Gun" theme. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Well, Tribes Vengeance is on the way... check out my new section
HERE!

I've gone ahead and released 1.03. Let me know if I've castrated the
Condor too much. :)
|
It turns out that the mod had a bug in the new vehicle-pad menu
system that would keep it from working right in dedicated mode on
some servers. This has been corrected, so I'm releasing version 1.02
ahead of schedule. It's now available for download. Enjoy the new vehicles!
|
The new vehicles are coming along nicely, including a new mid-air
tender based on the bomber (belly turret has repair-gun and flares).
NOTE- If you have previouly downloaded the mod and have had
problems with the server not loading the first mission, it's probably
because of a file that's been accidentally included in the mod for a
while called maplist.cs. All you need to do is delete all copies
of it (including from the VL2, which can be done with winzip), delete your
DSO's, and you should be good to go. I've corrected the copy here on the
site as well.

I've added several new vehicles since yesterday's release of BONES Mod,
though you won't get to see them til I release v1.02. I'd expect maybe a
week or two, since I want to add more vehicles before releasing another version.
But it'll be worth the wait, since some of these new vehicles are really cool!
Gunships bristling with chainguns, flying jet-bikes, and even a support-fighter
with a repair gun!
Also, check out one of my new web projects: NerdReviews.net.

BONES Mod is undergoing updates to keep up with the current patch level.
I'm also cleaning up a few bugs along the way, one or two of which may have
made it difficult for some people to set up the mod. I'm hoping to expand the
mod a bit, but I can't promise anything. My hope is to retool it enough that
all of the new vehicle types will be available in the standard game modes,
such as CTF. Additional info will be forthcoming...
Update- Version 1.01 of BONES Mod is available! It's just a conversion of
the existing mod to the new Patch, plus a few bug fixes, plus all of the
mod's vehicles are available in standard game modes such a CTF, and not
just in Dogfight and Artillery modes. More specialized vehicles will be
in development, and perhaps some new maps, but this was a great improvement
to implement.

RANT MODE ACTIVATED
Well, UVALAN is definitely
a bust. I've lost my respect for these people. I used to think they were
doing a good thing for the Tribes community by organizing these events, but
after the treatment I've received recently, I'd sincerely doubt that I'd ever
attend one of their events again.
They posted some time ago that they maintained a waiting list, and
that anyone who can't attend should contact them about reselling their
ticket to someone that can use it. I did so, and was ignored. 4 days later
they posted that they wouldn't accept any more transfers... still no
reply. At this point I requested a refund instead. Still no response.
Yesterday arrived, and I threatened to file a complaint/claim with paypal,
and finally I got a message! But instead of an apology, or an effort to
work with me to either transfer the ticket or just refund my money, I got
an argument about how it's not their responsibility, no refunds are given,
and it's too late to do anything. Well, considering I paid them, that makes me
a customer. I contacted them before their deadline that popped up with no
prior warning. They ignored me the entire way (but they were receiving the
messages, which was admitted to). I've been treated very unprofessionally.
They say they're just two guys trying to do something for the community.
Well, those who pay them for the event ARE the community. Expecting me to
leave them with my money when I can't go, and gave them ample time to work
with me on this, is tantamount to stealing, IMHO. I can live without the $50,
despite being out of work, but I thought the Tribes community was better than
this. Perhaps I was wrong.

Well, I'm definitely going to sell off my UVALAN4 ticket. I've got several
reasons at this point...
- I was one of the Worldcom cuts, and I'm still looking for work.
I need to save money as much as possible at this point, and
if I haven't found something by then, I'll need to use those
days for job-hunting... and if I do find something by then,
it'll be hard to take vacation days so soon after getting hired.
- Other things may be coming up for me that weekend anyway,
- And well.. there's my previously mentioned reasons. Base++, and
a whole bunch of base maps that I'm sick of. If I don't want
to play in ladders online, why would I pay to go to one locally
too? I want to play Tribes... not "ladder tribes", which is
completely different. I've had fun at UVALAN before, but well,
there's not much drawing me back this year.

I'm getting more and more disgusted with Sierra and a portion of the
T2 community. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, and most of the people
that I know who play it... but there are certain things that really piss
me off on an on-going basis, and I'm not going to stay silent about it
anymore. I like the game too much to sit back and watch people destroy it.
I wrote a
good rant as a comment for a PlanetTribes new item, that might be worth
reading. I can go into more detail here if people are interested.
It's really going to far... in fact, the announcement that the
UVALAN4 T2 tourney
will now use Base++ has me really tempted to sell my ticket. I don't see the
point in paying to play a different game... one I won't like as much.
